Supporting individual artists

Julie Cunningham photographed by Rick Guest
We work closely with a range of individual artists from diverse dance backgrounds and lived experiences, providing a foundation for them to create exciting work.

Associate Artists

Our Associate Artists are at the heart of our artistic vision. We commission new work from them, help them develop ideas and provide resources such as rehearsal studios and technical expertise.

The first group of Associates Artists was appointed by Alistair Spalding, Artistic Director and Chief Executive, in 2005. This played an important role in transforming Sadler’s Wells into the world-leading dance organisation we are today.

Our 17 Associate Artists represent some the most exciting talent working in dance.

New Wave Associates

Our New Wave Associates programme supports young artists at a very important time in their careers. We give them access to practical production time, advice and networking opportunities, as well as financial support so they can bring their energy and fresh ideas to our artistic programme.

Young Associates

We understand how important it is to support artists at the beginning of their careers in dance. Our Young Associates programme helps talented 18- to 24-year-olds for two years, giving them a crucial first step into their careers as choreographers. Artists are given a professional development course tailored to them, as well as the opportunity to present their work as part of our artistic programme.
