Trusts and Foundations

Many lit lightbulbs hanging, people can be seen exploring the space behind them
Sadler’s Wells is a registered charity, and we rely on donations to keep making and sharing dance.

As one of the world’s leading dance organisations, we’re dedicated to dance in all its forms. From creative learning programmes and artist development to exciting new commissions and productions, all the support we get from Trusts and Foundations directly contributes to the work we do both on and off the stage.

There are lots of ways Trusts and Foundations support us, including artist development, education programmes, and commissioning new work.

Artist development

We believe in supporting artists at every stage in their career. We have a number of initiatives designed to nurture the most exciting talent working in dance today.

National Youth Dance Company (NYDC)
We’re proud to be the host organisation for NYDC, the UK’s flagship youth dance company. Since 2013, NYDC has brought together some of the brightest young talent from across the country. Dancers come from a range of backgrounds, dance styles and experiences and the company has a reputation for creating challenging, high-quality work.

Young Associates
This programme supports talented 18- to 24-year-old dance makers for two years, helping them make the first step into their careers as choreographers. This professional development scheme includes workshops, networking opportunities and the chance to present work at Sadler’s Wells.

Wild Card
Launched in 2013, Wild Card supports a new generation of young, dynamic choreographers. It gives them the opportunity to curate, collaborate, produce and perform in a professional context.

Open Art Surgery
A week-long course for hip hop theatre artists and companies, working with cutting-edge mentors to create new work and perform in front of a live audience. With no pressure on the end product, Open Art Surgery allows artists to take creative risks, try something different and test out new ideas.

Learning and engagement

Sadler’s Wells’ learning and engagement activities take dance out into the community, and invite people of all ages and backgrounds into the world of dance.

Associate Schools
We partner with 22 primary, secondary and SEN schools across four London boroughs. We work closely with them to develop tailored programmes that have a range of opportunities designed to help pupils in both their academic and personal development.

Get Into Dance
We offer reduced price tickets, workshops and events to people in our local communities. Get Into Dance is designed for those who may not have been to Sadler’s Wells before.

Work with older people
Company of Elders is our resident over-60s performance group. We also offer community outreach classes and workshops for over-60s in north and east London. The Elixir Extracts festival showcases performances by non-professional older dancers. And every Friday afternoon an intergenerational community takes part in The Sadler’s Wells Culture Club.

Family Fridays
Inspired by our artistic programme, Family Fridays is a weekly workshop that encourages young children aged between two and four and their carers to dance together.

Digital dance
We invite audiences to take part in online workshops, activities and experiences, and dance along at home.

New Commissions

Commissions and co-productions are an incredibly important part of our artistic programme.

Commissions play a very important role in the careers of artists. We work with established artists as well as emerging talent from all backgrounds, so we can create a strong and diverse programme of work across all our stages.

With the support from Trusts and Foundations, we can help choreographers and small dance companies as they push the boundaries of dance. Our aim is to break down barriers to creating exciting new work, by offering advice alongside technical and financial support.
