A man and woman perform a dance in dramatic costumes on stage, with a stone backdrop.

Equality, freedom and law – this is a woman living dangerously.

“There are a thousand different Marianas de Pineda. The heroic Mariana, the Mariana mother, the Mariana in love, the Mariana embroiderer” according to Federico García Lorca’s play.

Of all these possible Marianas, in her role as director at the head of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, Granada-born Patricia Guerrero takes on the challenge of giving body and soul to Mariana Pineda, ‘a woman with deep Spanish roots, who sings the verse of her life to love and freedom…’.

A version that explores all the spiritual and expressive force of Lorca’s dramatic poem.

Both of them have their arms raised to the sides and they look wistfully to the side. Behind them is an unassuming cracked concrete wall.
